Next up: Succulents in Colored Pencils

Hi, everyone! I hope you're all enjoying the first quarter of this year. I sure am, especially now that the days are longer and spring is just around the corner.

Hyper-realism in Vibrant Colors

After weeks of administration work and turning this site upside down, testing printing techniques, making certificates and translating pages, I'm at long last ready to get started on drawing again.

I had big plans on making a pet portrait on Pastelmat once this website was completed, and even had all the materials laid out as a carrot in a stick for the sake of motivation. However, something a whole lot more exciting caught my attention today.

Sitting at the kitchen table as I usually do, the succulents next to me suddenly stood out as if they were glowing. My big, bright pastel portrait plans were suddenly dimmed by the excitement of drawing these beautiful succulents.

So here we are again. Ideas come to me faster than I can really grasp and execute them, but as the portrait isn't a commission, I'll let myself postpone it and follow this higher excitement. I blame the dust-covered, brown-palette aftermath of a long, dark winter for my urge to create something colorful.

Follow the Process

As this will be a hyper-realistic drawing in ultra sharp colored pencils, there is no point in even trying to get a draw-along of it. Since I don't operate with a magnifying glass, all you'd see would be the back of my head (believe me, I've really tried).
